Philantropy in the 21st Century: Should All Charaties Be Created Equal?

Description: The program was the fourth and final installment in CUA Law’s symposia series at the National Press Club for this academic year. Four expert panelists examined the U.S. tax code’s treatment of charitable organizations and debated whether the ultimate purpose of a charity should affect its tax-sheltered status.  The Obama Administration has proposed cutting back on the charitable contribution deduction. The panelists wondered what impact, if any, this would have on fate of some charities and on the willingness of donors to continue giving. Speakers included Russell Sullivan, staff director for the Committee on Finance of the U.S. Senate.
